Nancy Lavigne
Dr. Lavigne is interested in the reasoning and understanding that underlie decision-making in various problem solving situations. She is currently working on two projects. In one project, she is investigating the reasoning demonstrated by middle school students who have learned descriptive statistics by designing their own group surveys. Students work in groups to design and conduct their investigations, which they present to classmates. In the second project, she plans to conduct a study that examines undergraduate students understanding of the relationship between statistical concepts and how this knowledge influences their decisions on word problems dealing with inferential statistics.
